5 things to look forward to: Adelaide v City

Jamie Adelaide

Continuing our winning start to the season

Season 2020/21 got off to a strong start on Tuesday night when we left Dolphin Stadium with a 0-1 win against Brisbane Roar.

Connor Metcalfe’s second half curling strike was the match-winner in what was a good performance from a City side that finished a man down.

There’s no doubt Patrick Kisnorbo would have been a happy man with the result but the focus now moves on to Adelaide on Sunday night.

Kick off is at 6.05pm and you can catch all the action live on Fox Sports or streaming on Kayo or the My Football Live app.

Starting the new year off with a bang

There’s no doubt 2020 was a challenging year for everyone in Melbourne and we are all hoping 2021 will be much better!

On the pitch it was a solid year which saw us make it all the way to the A-League Grand Final but unfortunately it didn’t go our way.

Kisnorbo’s squad have been putting in the hard yards to ensure we can get back to that stage and go one better in 2021.

They’ll be doing everything possible to ensure we start 2021 the way we ended 2020 – with a win!

A couple of starting spots up for grabs

Unfortunately, there were a couple of negatives to come out of Tuesday’s win.

Andrew Nabbout tore his hamstring and will miss six weeks while Adrian Luna was sent off after picking up a second yellow card.

While there is no doubt these are a couple of crucial players in City’s line-up, it will provide opportunities for other members of Kisnorbo’s squad to break into the starting XI and show what they can do.

Florin Berenguer, Taras Gomulka and Marco Tilio are all in contention to replace Luna while Naoki Tsubaki was subbed on for Nabbout on Tuesday and showed some glimpses of his talent.

Reversing our recent Adelaide form

Hindmarsh Stadium hasn’t exactly been our happiest hunting ground as of late as we’ve recorded three losses from our last three trips.

Sunday provides a great chance to reverse that form and pick up our first win in Adelaide since December 2018.

A Jordan Elsey own goal followed by a second half Luke Brattan goal got us over the line that night with Scott Jamieson, Rostyn Griffiths and Nathaniel Atkinson the only players left at the Club from that match.

An evening full of City football

You can cancel everything you’ve got planned for Sunday night and settle in for a big night in front of the TV!

City’s A-League squad will be in action at 6.05pm but before that starts, you can catch City take on Canberra in the W-League at 4.05pm!

Rado Vidosic’s squad opened its season with a gritty 0-0 draw in Brisbane and will be looking to get on the board with their first win of the season.
