5 things to look forward to: Brisbane v City

Melbourne City head to Brisbane on Sunday to take on the Roar at Dolphin Stadium in the team’s first Hyundai A-League match outside of Victoria in the 2019/20 season. Ahead of the match, we take a look at the five things we’re looking forward to.

Hot at the top

Since our season opening Derby draw against Melbourne Victory, we have won four games in a row and will be eager to make it five this Sunday against the Roar.

Being the only undefeated team in the A-League, we sit three points clear on top of the table, while Brisbane are sitting in ninth position and are yet to register a win this season.

Despite their inability to secure three points, the Roar have looked dangerous in attack and have created a number of chances. We’re set for an entertaining clash at Dolphin Stadium as we look to maintain our advantage at the top.

Goals, goals and more goals

Not only do we sit on top of the table, but we have also scored the most goals of any A-League team this season. Our tally for the season was brought up to 10 last week against the Mariners thanks to goals to Curtis Good, Adrian Luna and Rostyn Griffiths.

It’s been a case of no Macca, no worries, for Erick Mombaerts’ side, as the team has had six goal scorers in the past two weeks after Jamie Maclaren netted the Club’s first four goals before suffering a hamstring injury.

Despite being winless so far this season, the Roar have conceded just three goals, as Sunday’s clash shapes up to be a battle of defence versus attack.

A Good start to the season

Now in his second season since returning to the Club, 26-year-old central defender Curtis Good has had a flying start to the 2019/20 campaign.

He has played all but one game and has been a rock in defence, forming a strong partnership with Harrison Delbridge.

Last Friday against the Mariners, Good was also able to get his name on the score sheet with a glancing header from a first half set-piece. In what was his first A-League goal since the 2011/12 season, the defender will be looking to add to his tally as the season progresses.

A chance to improve our record

Historically, Brisbane hasn’t always been our happiest hunting ground, as we’ve won two of our last six games in the sunshine state.

Sunday’s fixture will be held away from our usual meeting place, with the game being played at Dolphin Stadium rather than Suncorp Stadium. We have met once before at the venue, coming out 1-0 victors to progress through to the Round of 16 in last season’s FFA Cup.

Mombaerts’ men will be eager to make it two from two against the Roar at Dolphin Stadium when the two teams meet again.

Time to hit the road…

After completing our first five rounds in Victoria unbeaten, it’s time to hit the road and head to Brisbane!

As important as our unbeaten start to the season has been, including four consecutive wins, a win on the road is crucial as we look to continue our strong start to the season.

Can we make it six games unbeaten and maintain our hold on top spot? Tune in on Sunday to find out!

City take on Brisbane Roar at Dolphin Stadium on Sunday 17 November, kick-off 4:00pm AEDT.
