5 things to look forward to: Brisbane v City

Maclaren v Roar

Round 1 of A-League action is finally almost here! We take a look at five things to look forward to ahead of our season opener on Tuesday night.

Football is back!

After over 120 days, football will finally be back on Tuesday night when we face Brisbane Roar at Dolphin Stadium to open our season! After the disappointment of last years Grand Final loss to Sydney FC, we will return to the pitch to begin our 2020/21 A-League campaign, eager to improve and go one better.

City’s pre-season began back in early October and Patrick Kisnorbo’s men are now raring to go. City were undefeated through all five of its pre-season encounters so are heading into the season in-form.

New faces

We welcomed a number of new faces to the Club over the off-season and Tuesday night will be your first chance to see them in action! Winger Andrew Nabbout will cause plenty of problems for opposition defences, forming a potent front three with Jamie Maclaren and Craig Noone.

Olyroos midfielder Aiden O’Neill will see his first A-League action in a City shirt while the returning Ben Garuccio has impressed throughout the Club’s pre-season fixtures.

Old faces

While these additions add plenty of quality to City’s line-up, it will be a pretty similar looking team to the one that came so close last season.

Olyroos keeper Tom Glover will remain City’s number one – while the familiar partnership of Curtis Good and Rostyn Griffiths will be giving nothing away to Brisbane’s attackers.

Maclaren – last seasons Golden Boot winner, enters the season in stellar form, having found the back of the net six times across City’s pre-season friendlies.

Double header

You won’t even have to wait until 7pm to get your City fix as Tuesday’s clash will be a double header!

City’s W-League squad re-wrote the record books last season, going undefeated on their way to taking out a historic double.

Rado Vidosic’s team – led by newly signed Matildas Jenna McCormick and Teagan Micah, will be kicking off its championship defence at 3:30pm and you won’t want to miss it!

Going one step further starts now

While the pain of coming so close last season still burns strongly, it’s time to look forward and kick off the new season with a bang.

The quality on the pitch is obvious and all of the work over pre-season has gone towards improving and putting the Club in the best position to win it’s first A-League silverware in season 2020/21.

Patrick Kisnorbo’s team are pumped and ready to go, and you should be too!
