5 things to look forward to: City v Brisbane

Launching from home

It has been a long wait for Melbourne City fans but our first season opener in seven years is almost here and we can’t wait to open our campaign at AAMI Park. The Club’s first opener was way back in the 2010/11 season as we played our first competitive league match against the Central Coast Mariners in the first football game at our home ground.

Jump forward seven years and a lot has changed since then but we are just as excited to have the first game of the 2017/18 A-League season in our back yard!

Fresh Faces

It has been a busy off-season in terms of player recruitment for City and there will be a number of fresh faces taking to AAMI Park for the first time in a City shirt.

Potential City debuts to Scott Jamieson, Eugene Galekovic, Iacopo La Rocca and Marcelo Carrusca as well as international signings Bart Schenkefeld, Ross McCormack and marquee man Marcin Buzinski are on the cards for round one.

One thing this pre-season has showed us is that no one’s spot is guaranteed and the fight for positions on Friday night will see a very competitive squad hit the park for the contest.

City Blue debut

Friday night will be the first time the A-League side will be heading out for a competitive match in not only the new home kit but a new colour as well.

After three seasons in white, our boys (and women when the W-League season starts) will be heading out in City Blue, decked out in the latest kit from Nike.

Re-Joyce, Warren is here

The season opener will also be Warren Joyce’s first match in charge at AAMI Park. The Englishman took the reins back on the first day of pre-season and will experience his first match in front of the City faithful.

Joyce has brought his own style to the Club – one which has pushed the players this pre-season – but we are looking forward to seeing the fruits of that this Friday night and beyond.

Football is back!

No matter which way you spin it, football is back for another season! We missed the feeling of going to AAMI Park on match day and finally it’s back!
