5 things to look forward to: City v Central Coast

Andy

Five in a row?

The City boys have been on fire in recent times and will be looking to continue on their winning ways when they take on Central Coast on Monday night.

We have now gone six weeks without dropping a point with wins against Sydney FC, Western Sydney, Melbourne Victory and Macarthur all coming in that period of time.

Over the win streak we have conceded just twice and have recorded cleans sheets in three consecutive matches, while up the other end of the pitch we’ve scored 14 times.

Our 20 goals for the season is good for second in the A-League, just two behind Central Coast who have two games in hand.

A test against the top of the table

It has been a resounding turn around in form for the Mariners who after finishing last season at the bottom of the table, now take their place at the opposite end and are five points clear on top.

We currently sit fourth and are six points behind Monday night’s opponent but as mentioned above, we have played two less games.

This will be our second meeting against the Mariners, having already faced them away from home back in Round 6.

We started on fire that night, taking a 2-0 lead inside the first half hour thanks to Adrian Luna and Jamie Maclaren goals, but a fightback from the Mariners saw them pull off a comeback to take all three points in front of their home crowd.

Monday night football!

The cure for your Monday blues is here! We’ll be in action for Monday night football for the first time this season.

Why not ease yourself into the week with what is set to be a quality match of football as we look to continue our red-hot form against the team on top of the table.

Macca’s hot streak set to continue

There is no doubt Jamie Maclaren has been in ripping form with our star striker having bagged seven goals in his last four games.

A bit of a change in roles over our recent fixtures has seen Maclaren play more of a supporting role to the midfield and his assist numbers have benefitted, picking up three over those matches.

Having already scored in the fixture against the Mariners earlier this season, there’s no doubt JMac will be eyeing off more goals on Monday.

Strong performances all over the park

While Macca has been on fire, it’s been strong team performances over the park that have led to our great form as of late.

This was evidenced mid-week when we saw four City faces in the A-League Team of the Week following our win against Macarthur.

Maclaren, Andrew Nabbout, Curtis Good and Scott Jamieson all appeared in what was a very City-centric TOTW.

There were even a few others who could count themselves unlucky with Nathaniel Atkinson and Rostyn Griffiths both headlining the list of omissions.
