Pointy end

The Magic of the Cup is taking over Melbourne as we return to AAMI Park to host Western Sydney Wanderers in the Quarter Finals of the FFA Cup on Wednesday 19 September.

With a spot in the Semi Finals on the line, it’s set to be enthralling encounter between two A-League sides.

So get down to support the boys as they look to continue their run in the competition that they conquered in 2016.

It’s Bruno’s world…

There appears to be a special bond between Bruno Fornaroli and mid-week knockout fixtures.

For the second consecutive round, Fornaroli has proven to be the difference with a moment of brilliance. This time, a spectacular curling effort from the edge of the box to secure a 1-0 win over Newcastle in the Round of 16.

First it was against Brisbane Roar, and then the Jets, will Western Sydney Wanderers be next on the hit list? That remains to be seen.

Three on the trot

Wednesday night’s match against the Wanderers will be the third consecutive match that Warren Joyce’s men have drawn against an A-League opponent in the FFA Cup.

As the only team in the competition to have drawn three games against A-League opponents, City will be looking to knockout their domestic league counterparts.

There’s no doubt that it’s been a tough draw for the boys in City blue so far, but with the home fans behind them, there’s every chance that they’ll qualify for the Semi Finals.

Dressed to impress

City’s Quarter Final against the Wanderers is not only an opportunity to book a place in the Semi Finals, but it’s also an opportunity to make a statement ahead of the 2018-19 Hyundai A-League season.

With many fresh faces set to take the field, both the new and old boys will be looking to impress not only their coaching staff but also the City fans.

New signings Lachlan Wales, Riley McGree and Rostyn Griffiths all started in City’s 1-0 win over Newcastle as they look to cement a spot in the starting XI.
