5 things to look forward to: City v Western United

After suffering back-to-back losses for the first time this season, Head Coach Erick Mombaerts and his team will look to bounce back at AAMI Park on Friday night. Ahead of the clash, see the five things we’re looking forward to as we host Western United.

Bounce-back ability

Losses to Melbourne Victory and Sydney FC over the past fortnight, saw Head Coach Erick Mombaerts and his team suffer consecutive defeats for the first time since the Frenchman took charge.

After a positive start to the season, City will look to learn from the lessons of the past fortnight, work hard on the training track and return to the form that saw them start the season so strongly.

A fresh rivalry continues under Friday night lights and with the team eager to respond, we’re set for a cracker! Don’t miss it!

First time feels

Friday night’s clash will mark the first time City host Western United since their commencement in the A-League.

We’ve beaten them on their home deck, now it’s time to make it two from two when we welcome our new rivals to AAMI Park.

With quality at both ends, we’re set for an intriguing battle as we look to claim the bragging rights over our Victorian neighbours.

A chance to open the New Year with three points

City’s Round 13 clash with Western United will be their first of the New Year, and we can’t think of a better way to open 2020 than with three points in front of the City faithful.

The Summer of Football is here, it’s a new decade and it’s time to set the tone for the remainder of the year!

Young guns depart, opportunity opens up

Talented City quartet, Connor Metcalfe, Tom Glover, Ramy Najjarine and Denis Genreau will all depart for Thailand this week ahead of the AFC U23 Championships and qualification for Tokyo 2020.

With all four players stepping up over the past month, they will leave a considerable gap to fill.

But with their departure comes opportunity, as those that are set to fill their void will be eager to grasp their chance and secure their spot in Mombaerts’ preferred XI.

Magical Macca

The last time the two teams met, first-time bragging rights were on the line.

Just as the match looked headed for a 1-1 draw, up stepped Jamie Maclaren with a remarkable finish to secure the three points at the death.

City’s star number 9 will be looking to have the same impact on the match when the two teams go head-to-head for the second time.

It’s set be a cracker at AAMI Park, don’t miss it!
