5 things to look forward to: Victory v City

Following a long pre-season, Melbourne City return to league action this Saturday night when they take on Melbourne Victory in a blockbuster Round 1 Melbourne Derby. Ahead of the clash, we take a look at the five things we’re looking forward to.

We’re underway!

After a long off-season, we open our 2019/20 Hyundai A-League campaign when we take on Melbourne Victory in a blockbuster Melbourne Derby at Marvel Stadium.

We’re on enemy territory, and we’re determined to start the season off in the right way!

First impressions

There’s a time and a place to make your mark, and no stage is greater than the Melbourne Derby.

With a host of fresh faces, City’s new boys will be looking to impress in their respective A-League debuts.

Craig Noone has been on fire in the FFA Cup, as Javier Cabrera and Adrian Luna have shown glimpses of what they’re capable of. With Jamie Maclaren on international duty, a chance presents itself for one of our attackers to step up and grasp the moment. Whether that’s a fresh or familiar face remains to be seen, but we’re excited by the challenge and we bet that you are too!

The rivalry returns

It’s Derby time! The rivalry is back, and we’re ready to fight for Melbourne’s bragging rights.

It’s mate against mate, family against family, neighbour against neighbour. It’s all on the line when we take the field on Saturday night.

Enemy territory

City have lost only one of their past five A-League games against Melbourne Victory at Marvel Stadium.

Recording three wins and one draw in that time, City have historically flourished on enemy territory.

There’s nothing quite like the challenge of facing your cross-town neighbours on their home deck, and we can’t wait for the battle!
