Alex Confident In Maycon

Brazilian star Alex Terra is confident his compatriot Maycon will be able to make the transition to the Hyundai A-League.

Brazilian star Alex Terra is confident his compatriot Maycon will be able to make the transition to the Hyundai A-League.

Heart confirmed Maycon as its fifth signing this off-season on Tuesday, joining the likes of Fred, Mate Dugandzic and David Williams.

Having successfully made the move from Brazilian state league football himself, Alex said it is crucial Maycon adjusts to the pace and ferocity of the Hyundai A-League.

And more important than that, Alex believes Maycon must also come to terms with the system implemented by Head Coach John van ‘t Schip.

Speaking through an interpreter, Alex said: “First of all he must understand all the strategy of the game, train hard and understand the Australian football which is different to Brazilian.

“It-s a stronger, more physical game [than Brazil]. So he must train hard and get to know how the team plays and get used to the tactics. It-s good he has arrived early as he can get used to the team and the training.”

While adjusting to a new football culture can prove difficult, Alex doesn-t feel Maycon will face the same hurdle, saying he will be alongside him every step of the way of his adventure down under.

Alex said: “I-m sure he will do well in this league and I-ll be there to support him. And I-m sure he-ll be there to support me and I-m sure he will be a total success here in Melbourne.”
