Melbourne Heart FC Head Coach John Aloisi has spoken of his disappointment in his side’s away form after last night’s 2-0 loss against Newcastle Jets, but is confident his side will continue to work hard in its push to secure a finals berth.

Heart went down at the Hunter to an early goal from Emile Heskey and a late Ryan Griffiths strike, despite having a number of opportunities to snatch a point away from home, including Eli Babalj’s 25th minute strike which struck the woodwork.

“We shouldn’t really worry whether we are playing at home or away,” Aloisi said last night.

“We try to play the same way, the same football. It is not like we are defending too deep.

“We try to dictate the game by keeping possession and creating openings the same as we do at home. And then when we lose the ball we try to keep compact and not go too deep to invite pressure. So it shouldn’t be much different.

“It is a bit concerning that we are not winning away from home because I think we are good enough to pick up a lot more points away from home.

“It was disappointing to get another loss. It is something that we have to put right.”

“You can take a bit away from the match especially the period when we got on top.”

While Heart is still in the top six, the Red and White face Sydney FC next week, which could be a crucial match in defining which team makes the Finals Series.

“It’s not good – we know that… We’re trying to put it right but now we’ve got a home game to look forward to next week,” Aloisi said.

“It’s a big game for us (against Sydney FC). We’re still in finals contention and we have to keep working hard.”
