Melbourne Heart FC left-back Aziz Behich has praised the team-s character which has seen the Red and White emerge from a “rough patch” to become the form side of the Hyundai A-League in recent weeks.

Behich has been a pivotal member of the squad this season and was proud to be a part of yesterday-s record-breaking 5-0 win over Wellington Phoenix – the Club-s biggest win in its four-year history.

“I think that was the Club-s biggest win ever, so it was great to be a part of it,” Behich said.

“We played really well; the boys showed a lot of guts coming to Wellington not only to get the result but to score five goals.

“We-ve just got to keep that going now and look forward to next week.”

Behich said the team-s character had shone through in recent weeks, with the team sticking together despite earlier results during the season.

“We had a rough patch; we didn-t start well at all, but credit to the team,” Behich said.

“We stuck together and stayed positive; no one threw in the towel.”

Behich said the side had taken a “game by game” approach, which has seen the side play with freedom and record four wins in the past five matches.

“We are going to take it game by game and just try to improve every week,” Behich said.

“I think we are playing better football every week and the results are coming with it.”

Behich praised goal-scorer David Williams who netted a superb hat-trick.

“Dave is a great player and is deadly in front of goal when he hits his straps,” Behich said.

“Hopefully he can continue that for us because we need him at the top [of his game].”

League leaders Brisbane Roar, who slipped up against Newcastle Jets on Sunday, are Melbourne Heart-s next challengers this Sunday as the Red and White return to AAMI Park.

“It-s going to be a great test for us against Brisbane because they are the benchmark in the league at the moment,” Behich said. “We are really looking forward to it.”
