On this International Day of People with a Disability we celebrate the contribution of the many inspirational carers who provide unpaid care and support to family members and friends who have a disability.

With the support of Vichealth, City in the Community has partnered Carers Victoria, LaTrobe University and Action on Disabilities in Ethnic Communities to deliver an innovative program that gets carers active and throughout the year we have been delivering physical activity for carers support groups either online and in group settings.

Staying active is  big challenge for carers, especially those from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds who are often time poor and dedicate their time and energy exclusively to those they care for.

City in the Community Melbourne Special Community Projects Manager, George Halkias said:“On this important day we recognise just how special those in our community who care for people with a disability are.”

“Their dedication to the people they care for is truly inspiring and humbling. We are proud to help in just a small way by creating opportunities for them to exercise and improve their own health.”

Sessions delivered by City’s Young leaders have also been a key to supporting carers during the pandemic.

Carers and carer groups can get in contact with City in the Community and learn more about the program by watching the following video.
