City in the Community update

See what Melbourne City FC’s community department have been up to over the past week with our Indigenous Recognition match and the AXF Cup coming up

Round 18: Indigenous Round

Our Round 18 fixture with Perth Glory will be the Club’s Indigenous Recognition match. This will be the 5th year Melbourne City FC have held the event and are the only Club in the league to host an Indigenous match. With two Indigenous players in our squad (David Williams and James Brown), the match will be a celebration of Indigenous culture in Australia.

Indigenous children from all of Victoria’s regional centres will attend their first football match and a clinic will be held pre-game at Gosch’s Paddock for children from Mildura United SC. Wurundjerie Elder, Auntie Joy Murphy, will be performing the ‘Welcome to Country’ and Ronnie Murray, Wamba Wamba man, will be on the didgeridoo pre game.

AXF Cup

The Melbourne Chinese Soccer Association will be holding the AXF Cup on Saturday 21 February at the Veneto Club in Bulleen. This will be the 4th year Melbourne City FC will be supporting the event, fielding a select side in the tournament.

The tournament will also celebrate the Chinese New Year with a Chinese lion and dragon dance as well as a women’s friendly match in the afternoon. The day will kick-off at 9:45am and will include plenty of festivities on the day. Entry is free
