Follow all the results of day one of the Melbourne City cup as Pascoe Vale and Northcote City progress on Day 1

Excitement was in the air as players arrived at La Trobe’s lower playing grounds for the first day of the inaugural City Cup tournament.

The tournament involves teams of players aged 12 years and under from clubs affiliated with the Football Federation Victoria.

The range and scope of teams was on display with participants travelling from all parts of the state including: Geelong, North Sunshine, Northcote, Monash, Fawkner, Ashburton, Pascoe Vale and Greenvale.

Fawkner SC and Northcote City kicked of Pool 1 games with a tightly contested draw, while Geelong scored an early 2-1 win over Monash City SC.

Fawkner SC took control of Pool 1 as the day progressed winning 4-0 over Geelong SC and blowing away Ashburton 8-1 before finishing 4-1 winners over Monash United.

Northcote City heated up in similar fashion breezing past Ashburton 6-0 and defeating Monash 3-0 in a free flowing contest.

It was a much tighter affair in Pool 2 with Pascoe Vale drawing 1-1 with North Geelong, before going on to defeat North Sunshine 4-0. Overnewton were narrowly defeated by North Sunshine however managed to score a 1-0 win over Greenvale.

Free flowing football was the flavour after lunch in Pool 2, with North Geelong and Pascoe Vale recording 8-1 and 6-0 wins respectively.

At the conclusion of matches on day 1 Pascoe Vale SC finished atop the ladder and progress to the final day, with Fawkner narrowly missing out by a goal difference of four.

All players are commended on the high standard of football and sportsmanship displayed on the day.
