Oakleigh Cannons and Springvale White Eagles topped the midweek tables at City Football Academy Pitches today, to progress to the final day of the inaugural Melbourne City FC City Cup Tournament.

The tournament involves teams of players aged 12 years and under from clubs affiliated with Football Federation Victoria, with each team competing for a chance to travel to England and face Manchester City’s Elite Development squad next year.

“The whole team has been thinking about the opportunity to play against Manchester City Academy side, it’s awesome” said Harry Durand, Captain of the successful Oakleigh Cannons, who meets eight other sides in the knockout stages on Friday.

Oakleigh were the dominant team of the morning, going undefeated whilst not conceding against Rosebud Heart, Diamond Valley and Keilor Park SC in a four team Pool 1.

While Springvale overcame a red hot challenge from both Dandenong Thunder and Bundoora United, who finished ahead of Cairnlea SC and Watsonia Heights in Pool 2.

The spirit of FIFA Fair Play was well and truly on display, with all teams and players to be commended on the high standard of football and sportsmanship displayed on the day.

The tournament final will be played on Friday 25 September at the City Football Academy Elite pitch.
