Melbourne City duo Marcus Gomes and Josh Wood have bowed out of the FIFA eWorld Cup Global Playoffs in Amsterdam last week.

The ESports players battled it out with the top 128 FIFA players in the world as the PS4 and XBOX players looked to make the final 16 at the FIFA eWorld Cup in London later this month.

Gomes started brightly in the group stages, taking out three wins out of five on the opening day of the competition including a win over eventual qualifier GoalMachine21.

The PS4 player only needed a win on the final group day to qualify for the knockout stages, however two losses – including a defeat to the man who eliminated him in the FUT Champions tournament in Manchester, F2Tekkz – saw Gomes depart Amsterdam empty handed.

E-League PS4 Champion Josh Wood failed to make it past the first day of the group stages with four losses despite wowing the crowd with an El Tornado finish with Cristiano Ronaldo.
