Melbourne City’s journey into the digital football world of eSports takes another step forward on Thursday night in the first round of the inaugural e-League season.

Marcus Gomes and Josh Wood will come up against Sydney FC pairing Samar Elbadar and Mark Brijeski on the XBOX and PlayStation 4 respectively in the opening round of the exciting new competition.

The Club made headlines in August signing the country’s first official FIFA eSports player in Gomes and since then, the Australian eSports scene has boomed, culminating in the creation of Football Federation Australia’s e-League.

Gomes – who will represent the Club on XBOX – will be looking to show why he is one of the favourites for the competition, bringing his Barcelona FUT Champions Cup experience to Round 1 of the domestic competition.

Wood will have the trickier task of taking on Brijeski who is currently ranked first in the region on the PlayStation platform. The duo have gone head-to-head online and there is no doubt it’ll be an entertaining contest.

You’ll be able to catch Marcus and Josh in action for Melbourne City on Thursday 15 February at 8pm LIVE on FOX Sports and Twitch. Click here for the e-League’s Twitch channel.
