Melbourne City FC fans and members were given a night to remember as the Club launched its 2015/16 A-League and W-League campaigns with the inaugural ‘City Live’ event on Monday night.

Hosted by Fox Sports’ Adam Peacock and ABC’s Francis Leach, the night saw the Club’s Hyundai A-League and Westfield W-League teams unveiled at the National Gallery of Victoria, as fans were given the opportunity to see their heroes up close on centre stage.

Melbourne artist and Triple J Unearthed talent Yeo entertained the audience with live music throughout the night, while local poet Jay Gould – a.k.a. Si – demonstrated his passion for the Club with a stirring rendition of his original poem ‘This City Speaks to Me’.

The event was held in the picturesque surrounds of the National Gallery’s Great Hall function room, with the famous stained glass ceiling by Leonard French capturing the eye of all in attendance.

City continue their Hyundai A-League campaign with the highly anticipated Melbourne Derby on Saturday, while the Club’s W-League team play their season opener against Sydney FC in Leichhardt on Sunday.

An excerpt of ‘This City Speaks to Me’, by Jay Gould.

“This city speaks to me

At the corner of the Bourke & Spring on a Friday night

Packed into the Imperial Tavern till it bursts

And the crowds roll down the hill to AAMI stadium

A dotting wave of sky blues and fresh whites, with a whale a Ram a Boat and a Bull, a coat of arms on the heart representing the cities industries and spirit.

This city speaks to me,

In a platitude languages, but united as one voice,

Where we belong to no tribe but call upon one team

Where together we are louder, prouder, brighter, stronger

All hands of old and young are summoned by the drum,

And they in turn summon the strength of those on the fields”
