Colosimo Praises Development of Young Brigade

Melbourne Heart FC Captain Simon Colosimo believes the continued development of the Club’s brigade of youngsters has placed the side in good stead ahead of the Hyundai A-League season.

Melbourne Heart FC Captain Simon Colosimo believes the continued development of the Club-s brigade of youngsters has placed the side in good stead ahead of the Hyundai A-League season.

The Club-s clash with Everton FC on Wednesday night saw no less than six teenagers take part, highlighting Heart-s commitment to develop the next generation of Australian talent.

This pledge was reinforced earlier in the week through selection of Kliment Taseski to Heart-s inaugural Leadership Group, with the 19-year-old set to assume a key role as a voice of the future.

Colosimo says the rise of Heart-s teenage cohort will help improve the overall level of quality throughout the side.

“We’ve finally got most of the squad together. There was a lot more player wise to choose from, so it-s come down to, there’s pressure for positions now,” he said.

“It-s great to have guys like Eli (Babalj), Kamal (Ibrahim), Brendan Hamill, Kliment (Taseski) when he came on. These guys have come in against Everton, done a good job and they are going to put everyone under pressure.

“The coach has said from day one that as soon as you can show me that you are the best option, then you are the best option. There’s a lot of motivation for the younger boys to break in, there’s a lot of motivation for the older boys to stay on their toes and work hard.”

And with three weeks to go until round one, Colosimo is confident the side can maintain its development curve ahead of August 5 and beyond.

“I think we are going to be challenging in every game that we play, that is our goal. We had small goals today, and I think we succeeded in meeting them, but every game we are getting stronger, we are getting fitter and improving as a team,” he said.
