Colosimo Praises Heartening Performance

Melbourne Heart FC Captain Simon Colosimo praised the effort of his teammates after the side secured a valuable away point against the Wellington Phoenix at Westpac Stadium.

Having struggled away from home this season, earning a solitary point from four matches, previous form appeared to suggest the side would face an uphill battle to force a result in Wellington.

And with the Phoenix unbeaten in over 20 matches at Westpac Stadium, the difficulty of the tasker only appeared steeper.

However, Heart seemed undaunted by the challenge, surging to a deserved half-time lead only for the blustery conditions to conspire and thwart the side-s attempt to create history.

Colosimo said: “I’ve got to really hand it to our boys we’ve achieved a few things tonight. We came from behind, away from home, and our results and performances away from home haven’t been good. We really stood up and we were good for our point and touch and go for the three.”

Colosimo also commended the efforts of debutant Adrian Zahra, who capped a meteoric rise from the Victorian Premier League with an impressive performance, earning the penalty which John Aloisi converted to open the scoring.

The VPL-s Under-21 Player of the Year, Zahra was signed by Heart on a short-term deal after spending an extended trial stint at the Club, featuring in the side-s marquee pre-season friendly clash with English Premier League side Everton.

“I thought Adrian Zahra in his first start was excellent. As disappointing as it is that we had to make changes, it’s great that in his first start he comes in and does really well and it just proves we are on the right track,” he said.

Heart will host Gold Coast United at AAMI Park on Saturday night. Kick-off is 6:45pm.
