Will Melbourne Heart’s midfield general Matt Thompson make an impact in the derby in six days time?

Melbourne Heart boast the A-League-s all time leading appearance maker in Matt Thompson, who has scored 6 goals for the Heart since joining for the Club-s inaugural season.

Two of those goals came in a thrilling 3-2 derby win last season, in what was a truly match winning performance from one of Heart-s most versatile players.

The most recent edition of the derby, which was number 6 between the two sides, saw both Melbourne sides fight out a toughly contested 0-0 draw.

The number 6 will be proudly worn by Patrick Gerhardt for the first time in a competitive fixture at Etihad Stadium on October 5 in this season-s massive derby opener.

Gerhardt is perhaps one of the A-League-s most well travelled players, having played in Switzerland, Romania, Canada and most recently Bosnia, where he enjoyed a fantastic double winning season last time around with FK Zeljeznicar.

Gerhardt has also played for the Liberian national team twice, making his debut on the 26th of March 2011, and can play anywhere across the back four, as well as in the middle of the park.

6 is also the number of goals new signing Josip Tadic scored whilst playing for Armina Bielefeld, where he outscored the Brisbane Roar-s Besart Berisha out of the side, making for some ominous signs for the rest of the A-League.
