Saturday-s Melbourne Derby has arrived at an opportune time for Melbourne Heart FC, according to goalkeeper Clint Bolton.

With the weekend-s loss to Wellington Phoenix capping off a winless month for Heart, Bolton believes the jolt provided by playing on the Hyundai A-League-s biggest stage will provide the side with the impetus necessary to emerge from its slump.

“We’re on a six-game run without a win, and we need to reverse that pretty quickly. The derby seems to come around at a perfect time as usual,” he said.

Heart-s downturn in results has seen the side fall from second to fifth on the Hyundai A-League table, albeit four point in arrears of the competition-s top two.

While Bolton was quick to hose down suggestions a Derby defeat would prove critical to either side, he acknowledged victory would provide Heart with the ideal platform to make a late charge to the Hyundai A-League

“I guess for both teams, it’s another case of must-win and whoever wins this game, psychologically it will propel us into the finals,” he said.

“It’s still a fair way from the finals, but I think the edge that the winning team gets in this one. It’s bigger than just a normal three points.”

“Obviously, there’s pressure on them, that doesn’t help when they are the biggest team in the league. A lot of pressure and that’s just what makes this game vitally important for both teams.”
