We always knew Damien Duff was a great guy but Duffer’s latest move has seen the former Melbourne City man make headlines around the world.

Winner of the 2014/15 Melbourne City FC Clubman Award, Duff departed Melbourne City with the desire to end his career with his hometown club Shamrock Rovers and made good on his promise, joining ‘The Hoops’ on a 18-month contract.

If the feel-good story wasn’t enough for the Irishman, Duff will reportedly donate 100% of his wages to charity.

Speaking to The Irish Times, Duff said he was excited about his next chapter.

“I have always said that I wanted to come back and play in Ireland and I am very grateful to Pat and the club for giving me the chance to do that,” Duff said.

“Not only do I get the chance to come back and play, but I get to do it at the biggest club in the country,

“I left Ireland 20 years ago to go and make a career as a footballer and so now it’s great to be back. And I am definitely not just here to see out my time as a player; I intend to make a positive contribution to Shamrock Rovers and to the league.
