Although there is only 12 months of history between the two clubs, the Melbourne Derby has already developed into one of the biggest matches of the Hyundai A-League regular season.
While we may only be two weeks into the season, given our unfortunate start to the campaign, the Derby already looms as a critical match for both sides. A win can help kick start our season and enable us to focus on our goal of reaching the Hyundai A-League finals series.
There has certainly been a significant amount of tension surrounding the match, which perhaps applies more pressure than would normally be the case.
But I think we should try to play our own game, and focus on executing as we know we can. We failed to achieve this in our last match, against Perth Glory on Sunday, and we could see that we weren-t performing in the way we would like to.
However, we-ve had discussions about that performance this week, with some solid training sessions which have prepared the team well for this game.
It-s all about performing when it matters though, and I-m confident we can play to our potential and record our first win of the season.
