Heading into our first game of the season against Newcastle Jets on Saturday, expectations are high and we are very confident.

With the players we have and the youngsters coming into the team, there is a lot of energy and will to show how strong we are as a club.

With Clint Bolton injured, new signing Nikola Roganovic will get an opportunity to start on Saturday. While last season Clint was able to play every game, given his extended recovery from injury during the off-season, we needed to find a ‘keeper capable of stepping up if necessary.

We-ve followed Nikola for over a year. He-s a very experienced goalkeeper who is used to success, having won the last four Victorian Premier League titles with both Green Gully and Altona. He knows what it means to be winning games, be professional and he-s been learning very quickly since he commenced training with us as well.

Although we still need to make a final decision in relation to our squad for Saturday, but normally Maycon is the player we will look to lead the line up front. It-s a structure we used and worked on throughout the pre-season. We haven-t got any secrets.

Maycon-s strong, fast, can hold up the ball and is always in the box to be there when the ball-s coming.
We know strikers thrive on scoring goals, and if he can get on the scoresheet early this season it will help his confidence.

As Simon Colosimo is unavailable through injury, Curtis Good is likely to partner Matt Thompson in defence. He has played there the last few games and is doing very well.

Curtis is physically strong, good with his head, good with his feet, is fast and is on the whole a very promising defender. I-ve all my confidence in him that he-s going to do a good job.
