E-League: City consolidate 3rd spot

Melbourne City has picked up a vital three points in the E-League on Thursday night as they defeated Western Sydney 2-1 on aggregate.

A strong opening leg from Josh Wood went a long way to securing the result for City as he prevailed 2-0 against Rick Tran on the PlayStation.

It was up to Marcus Gomes to round off the tie and despite going down to the unbeaten Joseph Nassar, the 1-0 result would mean City would fend off the Wanderers to create a vital three-point gap to fourth placed Adelaide United.

Next up for City, it’s the eighth placed Newcastle Jets in what will be Gomes’ final E-League match before he heads to Manchester for the second FUT Champions weekend.

Don’t forget you can catch all the E-League action on Fox Sports Stream and Twitch on Thursday nights.
