Melbourne City has picked up its third consecutive win in the E-League on Thursday night in an 8-1 rout of Brisbane Roar.

City were dominant from the get-go with Josh Wood up 5-1 in the first half of his leg, going on to maintain that score at full time in his best performance of the tournament.

With a four-goal head start, it would be a regulation win for Gomes on the XBOX leg as he eased past James Williams 3-0.

The dominant result sees City move up to third on the E-League ladder behind the undefeated Central Coast and Sydney FC, with Gomes and Wood’s strong win over the Roar seeing them move their goal difference to +9.

Wood was also named player of the round for his impressive performance against Dino Flocco, tightening up at the back and recording his first win of the tournament.

Next up for the E-League duo is fourth placed Adelaide and after the performances of the City duo this week, three points will be vital for Gomes and Wood if they are to create a gap from the chasing pack.

Don’t forget you can watch all the E-League action from 8pm on Thursdays on Fox Sports’ stream and Twitch.
