Tim Cahill
He’s hit his straps in the league and now Tim Cahill is up for the Etihad Player of the Month for December.
The Socceroos legend has made an incredible difference over the last month of the year, scoring in each of the final three matches of December. Goals against Perth and the Central Coast as well as the Melbourne Derby opener has seen the attacker make scoring a regular thing.
Despite failing to pick up the three points on each occasion, Cahill’s ability to make an impact on the scoreboard has seen him up for this month’s award.
Neil Kilkenny
It’s back-to-back Etihad Player of the Month nomination for Neil Kilkenny with the midfield general continuing his impressive form in the A-League.
Kilkenny has been there to pull the strings once again for City, playing an important role in his side’s complex transition between a back three and back four.
His man-of-the-match performance against Brisbane at the start of the month showed the influence the former Preston North End man has brought to a new-look City midfield alongside the likes of Luke Brattan, Anthony Caceres and Tim Cahill.
Despite falling to a couple of votes to Michael Jakobsen last month, Kilkenny will look to go one better in December’s Etihad Player of the Month.
Ruon Tongyik
The young defender’s rise to first team football has seen him nominated for the Etihad Player of the Month after and impressive December.
After making his debut against Sydney FC, Tongyik was thrown into the deep end after an injury to November’s Player of the Month Michael Jakobsen, and his ability to play at a level years beyond his age was eye-opening to those who knew little about him.
His performances have caught the eye of those in the league and the defender has made the central defensive position his own during December, with plenty of competition for the role.
Tongyik’s physical build and ability to be cool, calm and collected on the ball has seen him pick up the nomination as he continues his rise into senior football.
