The votes are in and we have a winner. Congratulations to Ruon Tongyik who is the Etihad Ariways Player of the Month for December.
Well, what a month it has been for Ruon Tongyik. December has not only seen the young defender make his senior debut for the side but pick up the top award, edging out Tim Cahill and Neil Kilkenny for the award.
Thrown into the deep end from the get-go, Tongyik made his debut against ladder leaders Sydney FC and did not look a step out of place, taking care of one of the most potent strike forces in the league.
Known for his range of passing after playing his junior years in the midfield, Tongyik’s passing accuracy sits at an incredible 91.2% completing 270 passes out of a possible 296. But it hasn’t only been his work on the ball that has caught the eye of fans, but his defensive work has been impressive as well. His imposing figure has seen him make 100% of his tackles, making 4 blocks and 17 interceptions so far this season.
Since his debut, Tongyik has started in all six fixtures and the young defender will no doubt be one of the rising stars of the competition if he continues his form.
The Etihad Player of the Month will be back for January. Stay tuned to melbournecityfc.com.au for the nominees
