Fan Talk with The Punter

After all the build up, all the media coverage, all the transfers, all the rumours and all the pre-season matches, Season 6 of the Hyundai A-League has kicked off. And, more importantly, Melbourne Heart FC has begun its first ever campaign.

After all the build up, all the media coverage, all the transfers, all the rumours and all the pre-season matches, Season 6 of the Hyundai A-League has kicked off. And, more importantly, Melbourne Heart has begun its first ever campaign.

It has been a long time coming and a work in progress, but it-s great to finally see the players hitting AAMI Park-s turf and taking on the best that the A-League has to offer.

Not ten months ago, I was just any football fan, slightly curious about this new team in my home town. Six months ago I was reading every football site for any news or rumours about players being signed or looked at. Not long after that, I become a Melbourne Heart supporter.

I feel something about this club that I haven-t felt at any other club besides Liverpool FC. I feel truly connected to the every move the club makes. When we sign someone, I-m keen to make them feel welcome. And when we played our first match at AAMI Park, I was there in full voice along with my fellow fans.

Now on the first match, the result obviously wasn-t the one we were after. However having seen almost every pre-season match the Heart has played, we certainly showed that we-re moving quickly towards where JVS wants us to be. The potential was certainly there, but the team is probably only about 70% jelled at the moment. Once we-ve got a few more matches under our belt, I-m expecting to see more of that exciting, attacking brand of football JVS promised.

Up next we-ve got Newcastle Jets away, a match that is sure to mean something extra special for former Jets captain and Heart superstar Matt Thompson. Will we be 100% jelled by then? No, but I-m expecting a lot of the players to lift and push for a result. I-d love to see us return from the Hunter Valley with three points, especially when we-re not yet near our peak.

Yours in support,

The Punter
