Fan Talk with The Punter – Edition #2

Two matches into the season and we find ourselves in a peculiar situation. Sure, we’ve opened our goal scoring account, but definitely in the most bizarre of fashions.

Two matches into the season and we find ourselves in a peculiar situation. Sure, we-ve opened our goal scoring account, but definitely in the most bizarre of fashions.

If anyone told you before the match that the first goal ever scored by Melbourne Heart in a Hyundai A-League match would be an own goal, you-d tell them they-re dreaming. But, as we are now aware, our first ever goal came off an incredible clearance-come-shot by Ben Kantarovski of the Newcastle Jets.

What a goal, mind you. I-d be proud if any of our players took that shot.

Even more bizarre is that if Clint Bolton had put his header on target in the 94th minute of our match against the Mariners, we would probably be the only club in the world that could say our first goal came from our goalkeeper.

So we-re two games in and we-re one loss and one draw. Not exactly the start that we would have wanted, but this year-s competition is going to be a lot closer than most people would have expected pre-season. As a whole unit, the players have probably only been together for about 3-4 weeks all up, which certainly makes jelling difficult. As I said last week, though, these things take time. And when they come good, it will be more than just “good”.

This week-s match has us travelling to Adelaide, and I know that there will be a few fans that will make the journey west to Hindmarsh Stadium.

More importantly, though, the week after we-re back at home against Perth Glory. We had 11,000 fans come to the last match, so let-s see if we can-t better it against God himself.

Also, let-s lift the roof with the sound of our support next time we play at AAMI Park!

Yours in support,
