Fan Talk with The Punter – Edition #6

Twice now we’ve played the Mariners. Twice we’ve lost. I think that qualifies them as being our biggest foe at the moment.

Out of a maximum of 6 points, we’ve picked up a grand total of zero from our matches against Graham Arnold’s men. While you could put a lot of that down to the fact that we’ve had a lot of players out with injuries, our performance last week certainly wasn’t great.

This season we’ve struggled against teams that have niggled and knocked us. Skoko had a hard time against Matt Simon in Round 1, although fitness may have played somewhat of a part there, and Beauchamp lost his cool after being smashed and bloodied by a Central Coast outfit renouned for playing the man and the ball in equal measure.

Last week, I hope, was just a blip on the radar. We did not play attacking football, we didn’t move the ball up from the back and we fell asleep when defending at the vital moment. We did not play the way we wanted to play, and I’m sure the boys are well aware of that. We’re still young, and I said before the season began that we wouldn’t be gelled completely until approximately Round 8, so we’ve got two rounds until I’m going to legitimately start judging the performance of the team as a unit.

This Sunday we’ve got Wellington at AAMI Park and, thankfully, the game isn’t on at the same time as an AFL final. Therefore everyone should bring at least one friend with them to the match. If everyone can bring one person, we’ll double the size of our crowd at the atmosphere at the ground from our last match.

This is our club, and we have the ability to get many people involved and loving the Heart, but they’ll need to see the club to feel the way we feel about the Red and White.

Yours in support,
