Aaron Mooy’s selection into the Socceroos squad for this weekend’s friendly with Japan has been testament to his brilliant start to the season with Melbourne City FC.

Mooy has been a key performer in Melbourne City FC’s engine room, registering some impressive performances in the Club’s first five matches.

His positive start to the season has not only been acknowledged by his coach John van’t Schip, but Socceroos Head Coach Ange Postecoglou, who has selected Mooy in his squad to take on the Blue Samurai in Osaka.

Mooy is one of five new inclusions in to the Socceroo squad that took on the UAE and Qatar last month, and with his performance on Saturday night, the talented midfielder has given his chances for a fourth international cap no harm.

After his man of the match performance on Saturday night, van’t Schip lauded Mooy’s efforts this season saying his contribution so far has been invaluable.

“Aaron is playing very well,” van’t Schip said.

“We have played five games and in those five games Aaron has been the player that has given balance to the team with his passing but also with his defensive work,

“He is working very hard and I’m happy he got a call up from Ange Postecoglou for the national team and hopefully he’ll get some playing time as well,

“We will miss him this week but I’m very happy for him, he deserves to play for the national team.”

Mooy will miss Sunday’s clash with the Central Coast Mariners but will return to the squad for the Sydney FC clash at AAMI Park the week after.
