FFA Cup Watch: Peninsula dominant in Brisbane Premier League

Our Westfield FFA Cup Round of 32 opponents Peninsula Power have showed promise in the Brisbane Premier League after finding out they will face City in the national cup competition.

The Power sit third after their convincing 3-1 win over bottom placed Capalaba and have recorded three wins by the same margin in the past month.

It wasn’t the start Peninsula would have hoped for on Sunday however, with Capalaba’s Ryo Ono scoring his third goal of the season to open proceedings after three minutes.

The early scare woke Aaron Phillips’ men, pegging one back through Josh Wooley before the interval as the Power stormed home through Andree Bonotto and Thomas Strickland on their way to three points and third spot on the Brisbane Premier League ladder.

Peninsula Power captain Trent McEvoy says his side primary focus is on qualifying for the Finals Series but believes it’ll be hard not to keep one eye on the club’s biggest matches in their history.

“Obviously the draw being at home and being up against arguably one of the best teams in the country, it’s a big challenge and we are very excited for it,” McEvoy said.

City face Peninsula Power in the Round of 32 of the Westfield FFA Cup on Tuesday 1 August at Dolphin Park in Brisbane, kick-off 7.30pm.
