Melbourne City FC would like to congratulate Football Federation Australia (FFA) and New Zealand Football (NZF) on their successful bid to host the FIFA Women’s World Cup™ 2023.

This is a landmark moment for football in Australia and New Zealand.

The FIFA Women’s World Cup™ 2023 will be a ground-breaking tournament of firsts right here on our doorstep. The first ever co-confederation hosted FIFA World Cup™, the first ever FIFA Women’s World Cup™ to be hosted in the Asia-Pacific region and the first ever to be held in the southern hemisphere.

It’s a tournament that will unite our many cultures, inspire girls and boys across the globe and bring together our football family in Asia-Pacific. We will see record-breaking crowds and watch long-term football participation flourish during a pivotal and exciting time for our sport.

As a Club, we are extremely proud of what we’ve been able to achieve in the Women’s game over the past five years. To win four championships and two premierships during this period is a testament to the professionalism of our players and our staff and our commitment to developing the women’s game in the past and moving forward is something that is a hallmark of Melbourne City and our continuing legacy in the sport.

Our heroes have inspired the next generation of Matildas and Football Ferns and we can’t wait to see the many stars who have represented our Club and will represent our club moving forward in action in 2023.

In what is an incredibly proud moment for football here in Australia, we can’t wait to welcome the world in 2023 and would like to thank and congratulate FFA, NZF and the entire football family who got On Side As One to make this possible.
