A youthful Melbourne City XI were defeated 4-0 against Newcastle Jets at Morshead Park in Ballarat on Sunday.

City fielded a youthful team, with second-choice goalkeeper Dean Bouzanis, midfielder Anthony Caceres and defender Manny Muscat – who recently recovered from a virus to make his first start since the team’s trip to Townsville – the only regular senior players over the age of 20 in the starting line up.

Young centre back Ruon Tongyik (19 years old), striker Braedyn Crowley (19) and promising midfielder Daniel Arzani (17) were the other first team players to feature, while the Club’s youth team players Brad Clarke, Gerrie Sylaidos, Dennis Genreau and trailist Christian Cavallo made up the numbers, with Head Coach John van’t Schip having one eye on Wednesday’s Westfield FFA Cup Quarter Final against Western Sydney Wanderers.
