Melbourne Heart FC midfielder Ben Garuccio is on the comeback trail after recovering from an ankle injury which left the winger sidelined for over a month.

Garuccio played an hour for Heart-s National Youth League side, which triumphed 3-1 over the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra on Sunday, after working his way back to fitness over the past five weeks.

The 17-year-old winger has been out of action since December 2, after suffering ligament damage to his right ankle in the round nine Hyundai A-League match against Sydney FC.

Garuccio made his debut for Heart in round four against the Central Coast Mariners, before international duty with the Qantas Young Socceroos made him unavailable for further selection.

Garuccio then endured a further set-back in just his second start for the Red and White against the Sky Blues, when he suffered ligament damage after a tackle from the Sky Blues- Fabio.

Garuccio’s rehabilitation has seen him rejoin full training in the past fortnight, while Sunday-s game was his first competitive match since December 2.

The teenager marked his return with Heart-s opening goal, thumping a shot into the top corner against the AIS in the 37th minute.
