Genreau: A win in the final will be big for the Club

Up and coming City midfielder Denis Genreau says a win in Saturday’s Foxtel National Youth League Grand Final will mean a lot more than people think as his side prepares to challenge for their second youth title.

City qualified for the Grand Final as Conference A Winners, finishing in front of Brisbane Roar by two points after eight season matches.

Joe Palatsides’ side will now take on Conference B Winners and reigning Champions Sydney FC at Central Coast Stadium on Saturday and the 17-year old says it has been a big couple of weeks for the squad.

“We’re excited to be a part of the final and we’re looking forward to the game,” Genreau said.

“It’s going to be big and on TV so for a couple of us young boys, it’s going to be good to get a bit of exposure and it’s exciting for us.

“It’s been tough, the boys have put in a lot of work in training and there have been lots of surprising results as well towards the end where a couple of results went our way. I think we made our luck during the season as well.”

Genreau – who has had a taste of first team football this season with the A-League team – believes a win in the Final will not only be important for the Club but also the confidence of the young side heading into the NPL2 West competition in the coming weeks.

“The club wants to win everything so for us to take out the youth championship will be a positive for the club and it will give lots of confidence for us young boys heading into the NPL season,” he said.

“I think [we’re going to win it] in our attacking transition, our press and winning it back straight away and playing attacking football. Our fitness towards the end of the game will get us there as well.

“All the work we have put in during this season, it’s going to pay off towards the end.”
