Melbourne Heart FC helped to raise funds for Special Olympics Victoria in the ‘AXF Cup’ yesterday, against teams from the Chinese Soccer Association and Victoria Police to celebrate the Chinese New Year.

Heart entered a representative team in the one-day cup competition, which is the second time the Club has participated in the football tournament.

The tournament also celebrated the relationship between the Club and the Chinese Soccer Association and the Victoria Police Soccer Club and helped to recognise the ‘Year of the Snake’.

Heart’s representative side consisted of players from diverse backgrounds, including a number of players from Africa, Somali and Brazil.

The Red and White’s representative side, called ‘Unite FC’ was also represented by the Deputy Consul of China.

The team played in the Melbourne Heart spirit and won the AXF Cup, defeating the Chinese Soccer Association and Victoria Police Soccer Club sides 3-2 in both matches.

Heart’s senior striker Golgol Mebrahtu attended the tournament and addressed the Unite team and met supporters at the game.

The tournament was well attended, with over 600 people turning out on a hot Melbourne afternoon to take in the action.
