Heart downs Peninsula side

Two first half goals were enough for Heart to seal a 2-0 victory over a Peninsula Select side earlier today at Langwarrin Soccer Club

Two first-half strikes from former Gold Coast United pair GolGol Mebrathu and Dylan Macallister were enough to hand Melbourne Heart a 2-0 victory over a Peninsula Select side at Langwarrin Soccer Club today.

Mebrahtu struck direct from a free kick in the 26th minute, before Macallister doubled the visitor’s lead six minutes before the break, profiting from a high Josh Groenewald cross which bamboozled the Peninsula defence.

Macallister has been scoring goals for fun in the build-up to the season and his 39th minute strike was his ninth goal for the Red and White in pre-season, while Mebrathu has now found the net on two occasions; once against Adelaide United and again today.

At 2-0 Heart were cruising but a number of second-half changes disrupted the team’s flow slightly, before the team played out the last five minutes with nine men after utilising all its substitutions.
