After opening the scoring through Jason Hoffman, who continued his pre-season hot streak, Heart seemed set to record a deserved victory when David Williams slotted home after the break to extend their advantage.
But Wellington fought back in the latter stages of the second half as Dani Sanchez and Leo Bertos found the back of the net to stun a shell shocked Heart and ensure honours were shared at Deakin Reserve.
