Melbourne Heart FC is proud to announce goalkeeper and reigning Player of the Year Clint Bolton as a Heart for Life champion for DonateLife Week 2012.
The former Socceroo will lead Melbourne Heart FC-s efforts to raise awareness of the importance of organ and tissue donation, with DonateLife Week 2012 focusing on asking and knowing your loved ones- donation wishes.
Bolton will take time out from his training schedule to visit transplant recipients at the Alfred Hospital, in addition to visiting Holy Child School in Broadmeadows to lead a discussion introducing students to the importance of organ and tissue donation.
“I-m proud to be involved in DonateLife Week 2012 because organ and tissue donation is an important modern day issue, and it is critical people are well informed before making a decision,” Bolton said.
“I urge our fans to speak to their family members about organ and tissue donation, and inform them of their wishes.”
Heart-s partnership with the Organ and Tissue Authority will culminate in the staging of a DonateLife Week match against the Central Coast Mariners at their home ground, AAMI Park on Sunday February 26.
The Melbourne Heart DonateLife Week theme match is an initiative to help promote DonateLife Week. DonateLife Week is the national awareness week, taking place from Sunday 19 to Sunday 26 February 2012, to increase awareness of the importance of family discussion about organ and tissue donation.
The Melbourne Heart FC project is funded by the Organ and Tissue Authority under the Government-s national reform agenda to increase organ and tissue donation and transplantation rates.
The Parliamentary Secretary for Health and Ageing, the Hon Catherine King, MP said: “Melbourne Heart Football Club has a great following here in Melbourne and provides an excellent opportunity for us to engage with those Australians who may not yet have discussed organ and tissue donation with their family and close friends.
“This partnership provides us with another avenue to encourage Australians to ask and know their loved ones- wishes. This is important as in Australia the family of every potential donor will be asked to give the final OK ” Ms King said.
