Melbourne Heart FC-s National Youth League side will look to stay in touch with third-placed Newcastle Jets today when they take on Perth Glory at Intiga Stadium from 5pm this afternoon.

In the penultimate round of the NYL season, second-placed Central Coast Mariners are just out of reach; however, Joe Palatsides- side can finish the season in third place if results fall its way.

After a purple patch in late November and early December last year, which saw the NYL side collect 12 points from four consecutive wins, Heart were shaping as a strong title contender.

Heart knocked off the Jets, Sydney FC, Brisbane Roar and the Mariners to procure 12 points from four outings, and scored 14 goals in the process.

However, Heart has achieved varied results in 2013, with only two wins from six attempts, both of which came against the Australian Institute of Sport.

Heart cruised to a 3-0 win over the AIS last week, before surviving a late scare as the Canberra-based Institute side clawed two goals back and Heart still has the opportunity to close in on third place with victory over Perth today.

Heart faces Sydney FC at Epping Stadium next Saturday, February 23, in the final round of the NYL season.
