Melbourne City FC can today confirm that Young Matildas international Sofia Sakalis has sustained a knee injury that will rule her out for the remainder of the 2019/20 Westfield W-League season.
The 17-year-old attacker ruptured her anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in training on Tuesday and is expected to have surgery to repair the damage in the coming weeks.
Head Coach Rado Vidosic said: “We are extremely disappointed that Sofia will spend an extended period on the sidelines. She’s a very talented young footballer and the future of our Club, but we know that she’s in the best possible hands with our medical team and will come back even stronger than before.”
