Seven of Melbourne City’s Academy players have been selected in the Australian U16 training camp ahead of the AFC U16 Championships in Malaysia next month.

Idrus Abdulahi, Jordan Bos, Luke Duzel, Thomas Lambiris, Dalibor Markovic, Ahmad Taleb and Joshua Varga have been selected in Joeys Head Coach Trevor Morgan’s 26-man squad to assemble in Melbourne ahead of the major tournament.

Following the latest training camp in New South Wales, Morgan says he’s continuing to build up his squad towards the major tournament.

“With this camp we are looking to build upon the foundations that we established during our last camp in Sydney,” said Morgan.

“Over the six days we will be looking to challenge the players to take them to the next level both individually and as a team.

“This camp will serve as an important phase of preparations for our AFC U-16 Championship campaign and it is vital that all players have a clear understanding in regards to the style of football we want to play in Malaysia.”

The squad will take on Melbourne City’s academy squad in a warm up match during their camp. The Joeys qualified for the major tournament after finishing top of the group ahead of Vietnam, Cambodia and Mongolia last September.

They will face Iraq, Korea Republic and Afghanistan in the group stages of the major tournament which will double as a qualifier for the 2019 FIFA U17 World Cup in Peru.
