Australia’s U23 side – including City’s own Stefan Mauk and Ruon Tongyik – have fallen to Vietnam in their second group game at the AFC U23 Championships in China overnight.

The Aussies dominated the contest however a deflected shot in the 72nd minute was enough for the Vietnamese to secure all three points in the contest, forcing the Aussies to pick up at least a point in their final group match against favourites Korea Republic if they are to progress to the next round.

Stefan Mauk and Ruon Tongyik played the full 90 minutes in the contest while Bruce Kamau sat out the second match after picking up a knock in the opening round clash with Syria.

Australia’s final Group D fixture against Korea Republic will be broadcast LIVE and EXCLUSIVE on FOX SPORTS from 10.30pm AEDT on Wednesday (17 January).

Australia’s results at the 2018 AFC U23 Championship will impact the team’s seeding for the 2020 AFC U23 Championship, which will double as the qualification tournament for the 2020 Summer Olympics to be held in Tokyo, Japan.
