Melbourne City will see four of its talent group of youngsters depart for Thailand this week ahead of the AFC U23 Championships that will double as qualification for Tokyo 2020.

Tom Glover, Connor Metcalfe, Ramy Najjarine and Denis Genreau will depart for Malaysia for a pre-tournament training camp before heading to Bangkok for the tournament opener.

Australia U23 Head Coach Graham Arnold said he’s excited to see what the talented group has to offer.

“I am happy with the final make-up of our squad for next month’s Championship. Over the past twelve months we have considered many players both at home and abroad as we’ve looked to grow the pool of players available to us,” Arnold said.

“To finalise the twenty-three players for this tournament was no simple task – we had over fifty players on our radar for this tournament, so we will arrive in Thailand with a strong squad and one that I believe will represent Australia well.”

The quartet will be with the U23 side until at least January 14, depending on their progression in the tournament.
