City midfielder Stefan Mauk has helped the Australian U23 side to a 2-1 win over Thailand as the squad finalised its preparations for the 2018 AFC U23 Championship in China.

His 52nd minute goal doubled the Aussies lead as Newcastle Jets’ Nick Cowburn opened the scoring in Shanghai. The Thais found a late consolation however Ante Milicic’s side held on for the positive pre-tournament friendly.

Ruon Tongyik and Bruce Kamau also featured in the contest as the squad now prepares to take on Syria, Vietnam and Korea Republic in Group D of the tournament.

Australia’s results at the 2018 AFC U23 Championships will impact the team’s seeding for the 2020 AFC U23 Championship, which will double as the qualification tournament for the 2020 Olympics.

All three of Australia’s group matches at the 2018 AFC U23 Championship in China will be broadcast LIVE, EXCLUSIVE, and ad-break free during play on FOX SPORTS.
