International City: Mooy and Hughes prepare for international duty

With the international break in full-swing, Melbourne City FC players Aaron Mooy and Aaron Hughes will be in action as the qualification stages for the World Cup and European Championships continue.

Marquee-man Mooy is one of three Hyundai A-League players in Ange Postecoglou’s 23-man squad to face Bangladesh and Tajikistan in the next stage of World Cup qualifying for Russia 2018.

It is the third international call up Mooy has received while playing for Melbourne City FC, with his last coming in the Socceroos friendlies against FYR Macedonia and Germany in March.

Meanwhile in Europe, the race to qualify for next year’s European Championships in France continues to heat up, with Hughes is set to feature in Northern Ireland’s crucial qualifiers against the Faroe Islands and Hungary.

Sitting in second position behind Romania in Group F, a win against the Faroe Islands and third placed Hungary will provide Martin O’Neill’s side with welcome breathing space ahead of the final two matchdays, as Northern Ireland look to reach the finals of the European Championships for the very first time.
