Aaron Mooy and the Socceroos progressed to the final stages of Asian World Cup Qualifying on Tuesday night as our marquee man found the back of the net in the 5-1 win.

Mooy was instrumental yet again in the national team’s commanding performance at Allianz Stadium in Sydney that saw the Socceroos top the group.

His goal in the 39th minute doubled his side’s lead before Tim Cahil, Tom Rogic and Massimo Luongo added to the scoreline to seal a convincing victory against an underwhelming Jordanian side.

Socceroos Head Coach Ange Postecoglou was pleased with the result, saying his side made a statement coming into the third and final stage of qualifying for Russia 2018.

“It was good. It wasn’t just about getting a result – we were pretty confident we’d win the game, we really wanted a strong performance,” Postecoglou said.

“We were a totally dominat side from start to finish. The boys have been very good in camp. All looked bright and fresh and pleased for them they got the rewards tonight.”

Mooy was subbed off in the 65th minute for Luongo. Alex Wilkinson was an unused sub.

The draw for the next phase of World Cup qualifiers will be held in Kuala Lumpur on April 12.

The duo will be back for in training this week for City and up for selection ahead of Sunday’s important clash with Perth Glory in West Australia.
